Big win for Ealing residents today at the Ealing Citizens Pre-Election Accountability Assembly.Candidates from the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties have all publicly committed to support the Five Basics for Temporary Accommodation if elected in May.This is a major step forward for families living in temporary accommodation β€” and proof that when residents organise, speak up and stand together, change happens. The Five Basics are simple, fair and necessary:βœ”οΈ Cooking facilitiesβœ”οΈ Laundry accessβœ”οΈ Wi-Fiβœ”οΈ Secure storageβœ”οΈ Clear informationThese are not luxuries. They are the minimum standards every family deserves for dignity, wellbeing and stability. At the event, some of the residents in temporary accommodation who have been supported by GOS&D were present and bravely shared their lived experiences of life in TA, helping decision-makers hear directly from those most affected.GOS&D also distributed information about our new Dignity in Temporary Accommodation project, supporting residents in Ealing and Hounslow to strengthen voice, shape policy and drive lasting change.Today was about commitments. How long could you live without these five basics?Somewhere to cook. A way to wash clothes. WiFi. Safe storage. Clear information about your situation. For many thousands of Londoners living in temporary accommodation, this is the reality, for months and too often, for years. How are you meant to rebuild your life when you can't cook a proper meal for your child, or get onto the internet? We're proud to support the Fix the Five Basics campaign, which calls on councils to change this. The campaign was built by people with lived experience of temporary accommodation, and it's already working. From new laundry facilities in hostels in Wandsworth to free pre-paid Data Sim Cards for homeless households in Greenwich, boroughs are already making changes to improve conditions for everyone in TA.In May, every London borough will host full council elections. This is an important moment to share our campaign with candidates, and ask them to take action if they are elected. Watch the new video to hear from people who've experienced this firsthand, and email candidates in your area to call for action: fixthefivebasics.org/email-your-councilIt's time to fEaling CouncilsTrust for London Council Trust for London ...
